Cruise Control
On the 84, the cruise is a massive beast. I wonder
why it has to be so dang big. Anyway, I thought mine looked like
crap (besides being too big), so I decided to color coordinate
it with the rest of my engine. To do this, remove the cruise cable
bracket at the throttle body. Remove the two screws holding the
bracket to the frame of the car. Remove the vacuum hose and electrical
harness. Take out the cruise. Remove the brackets. Clean up the
cruise (I used Fast Orange, my fingers, water to rinse, and paper
towels to dry). You may want to remove the two screws that hold
in the electrical thing inside the unit before washing, as you
wouldn't want it to get rusty in there. Clean the brackets. Decide
how much of the cruise you wish to paint. I just painted two of
the 3 brackets as seen below. Reasseble and let dry. I noticed
after putting everything back together and tightening down the
screws, that the suction in the cruise was a little tighter. Maybe
this will help my cruise, as it has always really sucked to use.
It makes the car lunge. I am hoping the MSD ignition also helps
this problem out a bit, 'cause if your gonna have the mother of
all cruise controls (which is the Z cruise control unit), then
you have to use it!!! Sorry, the pics are dark, but I took them
at night with a QuickCam. I will post better pics (and installed
pics) some other day.
