Magnecor Spark Plug Wires for the Z31

This is the MAGNECOR 8.5mm Spark Plug wire set. The set you need is MAGNECOR Spark Plug Wire Set #6560...it fits the applications Infiniti M30, Nissan 300ZX 1984-1989, and Nissan Trucks with V6 engine, 1986-1989. The type is KV85 Competition 8.5mm Ignition Cable. These numbers should help you in your pursuit for this fine looking wire.

As for the visual impression I get from the cables...let me tell you I am very impressed. The cable is 8.5mm thick. The actual conducting wire is 2.5mm thick. The cables came with specific information concerning the application. Click Here for that additional information. For special Street Vehicle Owner use Click Here. The wires are soft and flexible. This facilitates easier installation for our impossibly laid out engines. I bought some additional wire clips to make the application look really nice. Another great thing about these wires is that the distributor end of the wires has connectors that can't slip out of their boots. You may have noticed with other spark plug wire sets that the wire can "somewhat" easily slide in or out of the boots at the distributor terminal ends. On the Magnecors, the metal terminals are built with solid metal at right angles and actually crimp onto the wire after making the right angle curve. So you have a solid right angle curve that can't slip out of the boots. The plug-side boots allow you to choose whether to have the wire enter the top of the boot from the side (see pic on the left) or from the top (see pic on right).

When I changed out the wires, I also changed cap and rotor and put in some of those BOSCH Platinum 4's (cap and rotor also BOSCH). Here's my opinion. The car fires noticeably smoother. I DON'T feel a power gain, but I don't feel any loss in power either. The firing in the upper range doesn't feel much different...I was surprised. I did an electric fan conversion and that made a huge difference in the upper range, though not with firing, the car simply pulled better in the upper range. The wires didn't seem to make that upper range any nicer than it already was after the fan.

Installation of the Wires was much easier than with the old wires. The plug boots are soft, making it easy to get them on the plugs, and stiff enough at the top to snap them right on. I installed all plugs, wires, cap and rotor in like 20 minutes. It usually takes a bit longer with the old crappy wires and I am never sure if I have all the boots on snug.

On the distributor side things were perfect. The dist. boots are very stiff and the wires cannot slide in and out of the boots like on most generic plug wires.

The look of the wires is incredible!!! They look very nice inside the engine compartment. I'd say for only $30-$40 more than common plug wires that I would recommend these wires. They are easy to work with, cosmetically appealing, and the car fires a bit smoother. Take in mind that my old cap (or crap if you will) and rotor weren't that old, but they were Checker specials. I was not impressed with them...I cleaned the contacts once after only like 3 months and I actually could chip scored metal right off the contacts of the cap...very sickening.

Do this upgrade for a little better firing and cool looks. Don't do it if your expecting huge performance gains because you will be dissappointed. Hopefully the new ignition will bring the whole firing thing together and maybe then the wires will make a bigger performance difference. Hopefully it's like with a thicker exhaust wher you need more intake for the exhaust to do you any good...one really doesn't do you much good without the other. I'm kinda banking on that being the case with the wires and ignition. Does me no good to have one without the other, I hope I hope I hope???

Most people are concerned with how much these wires cost. Magnecor is notorious for expense. If you buy direct expect to pay over $120 for the wires. If you do your research you could be AS LUCKY AS I WAS. If you think that $70 is too much to pay for a nice wire set, then you may consider ACCEL or other brands which offer thick wires for less money. One think scared me about the order...I had six wires and I noticed two were distributor to coil wires, so I was missing a distributor to plug wire!!! But I looked around and saw I dropped one of the plug wires. So Magnecor actually sent me 8 wires, two being distributor to coil wires (I wonder if they always do this!!!).

Any comments or suggestions are greatly appreciated...E-mail Me. I would especially like to hear from those who ran their cars with both "wimpy" wires and newer thicker ones like these Magnecors. If the upgrade isn't worth it, let it be known!!!
